Kid Quotes: Week 2

Last week I started a new weekly feature where I share a few cute things that my kids have said over the past week. I have a couple for you this week… and some info at the end that you don’t want to miss!

Sarcasm

My husband and I made the decision, unconsciously at first, to stay away from using baby talk with our kids.  No nicknames for food or body parts and we’ve never stopped using $2 words in lieu of simpler language.  As a result of that, our children have a pretty robust vocabulary, and if they don’t know what a word means when we use it, they ask.

This weekend, I discovered CurlyQ and Little Man on the floor of our living room playing very nicely together after a wild morning of arguing over what to watch on TV and who wants what for breakfast.  I remarked that I was so impressed that they were playing so nicely together and told them how much I appreciated it.

CurlyQ’s response?  “Mommy, are you using sarcasm?  You know it’s not nice to be sarcastic all the time.  I never know when to take you seriously.”

Little Man and MommyMarriage Proposal

Tucking Little Man in at night can be a challenge sometimes.  That boy loves to snuggle in at the end of the day.  I think he just likes the extra time together since we are away from each other all day, and lately he has been using all of his powers to drag out our bedtime routine.  “Mama, just one more story.  Mama, I need a sip of water.  Mama, sing me a song.  Mama, tell me about your day. Mama, just five more minutes.”

So one night earlier this week after I had already read 3 books and sang a couple of songs, Little Man snuggles in and puts his hand on my cheek and says, “Mama, I saw your picture on the wall of when you got married.  You’re pretty.”  I told him he was sweet and that his Mommy and Daddy loved each other very much and that’s why we got married.  He then informed me that one day he was going to get married, too.  He said, “Mama, one day I’ll be a big man like Daddy and I’m going to get married, too.  I’m going to marry you just like Daddy did.”  I chuckled and kissed his cheek and broke the news to him that I was already married to his Daddy and that I couldn’t marry anyone else.  His response was, “Well, OK then.  I guess I’ll just have to marry sis.”

He’s a smart guy.  I’m pretty sure he will figure things out when he needs to.

I’m looking for your funny moments!

Based on conversations and messages I’ve had since my first Kid Quotes post, I’ve decided to make this a bit more open to just my two darlings.  I know that CurlyQ and Little Man are more than capable of providing a little chuckle for you each week, but I would love to open this up to anyone who would like to share their funnies, too.  It could be something from your own offspring or maybe you don’t have children but overheard something at the grocery store.  I would prefer not to list names (unless you are OK with that and give permission), but if you could give me a nickname or age that would give us a little perspective.

You can send me your Kid Quotes as a message through the GracefulMess Facebook group page or send me a reader response here.  If you would like to include a photo with your submission, let me know and I’ll send you my email address.

So, stay tuned for next week – and I’ll be sharing kid quotes from my children and hopefully some of yours, too!
